Welcome to Savage How!

This is a how-to wiki created by the students in Mr. Henderson's Lit and Comp 4A class at Savannah High School.

Getting Started

  • Your task is to create your own "How-To" wiki page, in which you explain in detail how to carry out a task. This should be a topic that you know a lot about. It does not have to be a physical task, such as changing a tire or baking a cake. It can be anything from "how to go out on a date" to "how to get out of trouble with your parents" to "how to make money without a job." Remember, you are the expert on this topic. Think of something that you know how to do well.

  • As you write your how-to guide, keep in mind who your audience is. The people who are going to read your guide are not experts on the topic. If they were, they wouldn't need to read it. Be sure to use plain language and avoid jargon.

  • The layout of your how-to guide should look similar to those on WikiHow . This means your guide should have an overview of your topic, numbered steps with a task and further explanation of what to do, and additional tips, warnings, or links at the bottom. Don't be afraid to look back at WikiHow for a model of how yours should look.

  • No one wants to look at a page simply full of text. Be sure to add a few photos that enhance your how-to guide. Also, you can post a related video.

  • Finally, make sure EVERYTHING on your page uses the correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. This may be a web document, but needs to be treated just like a paper you would print off and turn in.

Tips and Tricks

  • Before you start creating your article, play around with this site to see how it works.

  • If you feel more comfortable typing in Microsoft Word, do so. Just copy and paste everything in when you are finished.

  • Save early and save often! You don't want technical difficulties to disturb your creation.

  • If you don't know how to do something, don't be afraid to ask Mr. Henderson or one of your talented peers.

  • EVERYTHING on your page needs to be in your own words. If you plagiarize, you will fail the project.

  • Remember that everything you do on this wiki is recorded. That means if you type anything inappropriate or mess with someone else's page, Mr. Henderson will know and your grade will be dropped. Best advice: just don't do it!
